About the Project
Many people are not fully capable of distinguishing true from false information on the internet. They have difficulties in looking for valid sources, often merely consuming information without critically engaging with it. While people of all ages fall victim to fake news, studies have shown that seniors are more vulnerable than young people to believe and share fake news and digital misinformation.
The SAFE project
SAFE is a 2-year Erasmus+ project (project number: 2021-1-SI01-KA220-ADU-000033515) aiming to enhance the capacity of seniors (65+) to detect fake news on the internet, by helping them develop their media literacy and critical thinking skills. By creating innovative educational materials, the project aims to sustain digital participation and active citizenship. Its upper goal is to contribute to an improved quality of life that will allow seniors to lead a more complete, informed, safe, inclusive and independent life.
SAFE aims at:
Supporting digital inclusion by enhancing the media literacy and critical thinking skills of seniors (65+).
Providing adult educators with professional skills and action-oriented methods for developing elderly people’s ability to detect intentional misinformation on the internet and on social media.
Applying age-sensitive didactic and methodological principles in digital competence education to promote and facilitate the participation of senior learners in lifelong learning.
The project is funded with support from the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme and has a duration of 28 months (28.02.2022 – 27.06.2024).
